Star of the Week!

We will be starting Star of the Week in September.  Your child will be coming home with a poster one week before their date.  Please help them fill out the poster if need be.  They are allowed to bring something to share each day.  No animals however are allowed for sharing.  Their poster will be hung in our room the entire week, and returned home the following Friday.  To make it fare, I have not scheduled anybody on a week where we have a day or two off.

I will be setting up your child's own Raz-Kids account, which they can use at school and at home. Their username and password cards will be sent home the week of Sept. 11. Parents can also register and see how their child is performing!

To help your child be a stronger reader, please have them listen to the story once, read aloud the second time and then reread the third time. If they have a microphone on their computer, they can also record their reading so I can listen to them (I LOVE that!). Afterwards, they can take their quiz and see how they do. They may need to read the story again to move onto the next book. Happy Reading!

November 1 Updates!

Fun Run Exceeds Expectations

An amazing fundraiser, the Fun Run, generated excitement among hundreds of kids to run lap after lap (after lap!). In the end it raised more than $35,000 for LP. Eva Elder and dozens of parent volunteers went all out - setting up a very "professional" running course with inflatable arches, racing bibs, class tents, water stations, sound system and treats for all the kids - who were beaming with pride. I am thankful to work at such a supportive school and look forward to seeing what the team decides to purchase with the proceeds. Thank you Eva!

Halloween is a Wrap!

A big shout out to Kelly, Loren, Janet and all the parent volunteers who made our Halloween party so much fun! If you took any photos you would like posted on our website, please forward them to me and I’ll be happy to add them.

A+ for Awesomeness!

Thank you so much to Kimberly Hsieh (Conor’s mom) for spending HOURS helping assemble dozens and dozens of Guided Reading books. Since I am new to the grade level, she helped get this up and running with two little ones in tow. Thank you so much!

Holiday Gift Contributions

I also wanted to thank those parents who sent in $10 for our special souvenir gift. It's not too late if you would like to send in cash or a check, I would really appreciate it!

Next week we will be doing an art project with pressed fall leaves. That being said our class needs lots of interesting fall colored leaves. If your child would like to go fall leaf hunting please have them bring in interesting leaves no bigger than their hands (or 5 inches). They may bring in as many as they like but please make sure they come in a Zip-lock bag. I would like to get lots of leaves by November 4th.

Thursday, November 9 is photo makeup day!

We will also be taking our class photo. I will send home class photo order forms if you would like to order one.

Holiday - Friday, November 10 - No school!

Parent-Teacher Conferences are Monday, November 13 - Wednesday, November 15.

Please email me if you have any specific questions you would like me to address. I will be going over their report cards assessments and strengths/areas of improvement. Mrs. Richards may also be dropping in on conferences to observe. There are a few spots left in case you have not signed up. Click the link below to sign up on SignupGenius
